INCLUSION AT GoSH

A space for every-bot

GoSH is built on inclusion.

The event was founded in Mandurah, Western Australia, originating from a neurodivergent coding club championed by GoSH founder, Wongy. Wongy wanted to create a safe and customised space for all young people to thrive.

GoSH is a fully inclusive event, ensuring that all young people, including those from vulnerable and underrepresented communities, have access to epic opportunities.

To ensure GoSH is a safe space for all of our GoSH Bots, we welcome neurodivergent volunteers and mentors, including our very own inclusion advisor "Hi Rod!"  who is autistic and attends all venues prior, assessing the sensory and accessibility accommodations that might be required.

All GoSH events include a Sensory Breakout Space for participants to access, here they will find noise cancelling headphones (GoSH events can get LOUD!) and mindful activities away from the GoSH crowds.

GoSH makes space for our diverse communities. The GoSHackathon Competition has targeted awards, aiming to increase participation of girls and aboriginal young people.

At GoSH, every-bot is welcome!

GoSH Inclusion and Sensory Advisor Rod

Meet Rod!

GoSH SENSORY ADVISOR

Rod is one of the founding team members of GoSH.

As an autistic person, he recognised the additional accommodations we could make to the GoSH program in order to be even more inclusive to a wider cohort of participants.

Rod visits each venue prior, scoping out the best location for our sensory spaces pointing out potential triggers and working out where to put our locational signage,  which is presented in dyslexic friendly font.

On the day of the events, Rod can be found in the sensory space, calmly chatting with whoever is visiting at the time, or simply being present while space users chill out for a while (sometimes he just plays LEGO).

Rod is quick to hand out headphones to people who need them, and always happy to chat about his own experiences as an AuDHD (autistic person with ADHD), empowering young people and spreading kindness.

We are so lucky to have Rod on our team as our Sensory Advisor.

Sensory Resources at GoSH

Every GoSH event features a Sensory Breakout Space, offering a quiet retreat from the excitement. Here, participants can find sensory resources and calming activities to recharge away from the crowds.

Some presentations may feature bright and flashing lights, perfect for an exciting atmosphere at GoSH but something to keep in mind for those with sensory sensitivities.

GoSH can get LOUD, so noise cancelling headphones or earmuffs are recommended to enjoy your GoSH day out!

We are happy for participants to bring their own or borrow equipment to take into the GoSHowcase or GoSHackathon.

Please be Au-some and return borrowed equipment at the end of the day - the Participants at the next GoSH event will thank you for it.

Equipment available includes headphones, fidget toys, mindful activities and plushies. All participant showbags contain fidget toys.

GoSH loves LEGO

...ROD REALLY LOVES LEGO

Need a quiet break from the buzz?

The Sensory Breakout Space at GoSH offers a calm space to reset.

With mindful activities like our LEGO station, the sensory area provides a soothing, hands-on way to relax, refocus, and recharge in a stress-free environment.

You can also dig deep in your participant showbag, which will have all your fidget needs covered too!
